Somatic Experiencing Touch Therapy

Somatic Experiencing Touch Therapy (SETT) is an approach to trauma resolution that integrates the Window of Tolerance concept with Polyvagal theory, and the therapist directly connects with the clients nervous system by touching them. This therapy utilizes touch & body awareness to help clients achieve a regulated state of being and are supported to resolve difficult or lingering events/memories or scars/physical injuries. This approach can often take more than one session but is dependant on the clients needs/goals.

Clients can choose the therapy table or a chair while the therapist places their hands in the area of focus. The client often (but not necessarily) may feel warmth, pulse, movements, tingling, and brings their attention to the inward sensations of what's going on and reports it back to the therapist. Together they follow the nervous system in regulating which may sometimes mean bringing forward the disregulation first. Clients can experience shaking or quivering known as discharge but it is not necessary to experience in order to have a successful session.

Areas of Expertise

Systems Theory

Systems Theory is a psychological framework that focuses on the interconnectedness of relationships and how the environment, including friends, family, and work colleagues, affects us. It looks at how the whole system works together to either help or hinder an individual's wellbeing. Systems Theory helps us understand how our experiences and relationships shape our behaviour, emotions, and thoughts. I have completed my Master of Science in Martial and Family Systems Theory (MSMMFT).

Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body-based approach to healing trauma, founded by Dr. Peter Levine. This therapy helps to restore balance and safety, gently resolving traumatic shock, which is stored in the body and nervous system. Through this trauma-informed approach, SE assists clients in learning to regulate their autonomic nervous system and restore their sense of safety and wellbeing. I have completed my Professional Training and am a registered Somatic Experiencing Practioner (SEP).
